Development: Creating a Roomy Cabin

12. February 2024

We had a few key goals in mind when designing a new canopy for our ultralight ellipse. First, we wanted to create a cabin that would be large enough to accommodate pilots of all heights, even those over 190 cm (above 6'3"). Second, we wanted to ensure that the cabin's height and spaciousness did not come at the expense of performance. Third, we wanted to create a canopy that would be aerodynamically efficient and would not increase the aerodynamical drag.

We used a combination of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to achieve these goals. We optimised the cabin's shape and dimensions through these simulations to maximize space and minimize drag. We also used CFD to study the cabin's airflow at high speeds, which helped us to identify areas where the weak point could be.

One of the key design features of the new ellipse cabin is its use of curved surfaces. Curved surfaces are more aerodynamically efficient than flat surfaces, creating less drag.
In addition to its aerodynamic efficiency, the new ellipse cabin also offers many other benefits. The cabin is spacious and comfortable and provides excellent visibility.
We created a mock-up of the cabin to ensure that our computer modelling was accurate. The mock-up allowed us to test the cabin's shape and dimensions in the real world.
Photos of the mock-up are available below the article.

We are excited to offer the new ellipse cabin to our customers. We believe that it is the perfect cabin for anyone who wants a spacious, efficient, and aerodynamically sound ultralight aircraft. We will keep you posted about the deliveries and expected by the end of this year.
